Fashion & Style Advice

Here is some style advice that will take you a long way. Implement these rules into you daily routine and you will always look great.

  • Wearing any type of V-neck top gives the illusion of elongating the neck and looking thinner.
  • Monochromatic is always a good look. Basically wearing colors from the same family, like different shades of blue.
  • Show off your curves, hiding under big bulky clothes will only make you look bigger.
  • Invest in a great bra, it will complement your curves and make your shirts look better.
  • Put a belt on everything possible so that you can accentuate the smallest area of your body, making you look slender.
  • Comfort is key, if you don’t have full range of motion sitting, walking, or bending down, then it’s probably not that comfortable.

Happy Styling :) !

New Books on our Fashion Reading List

The Book of Styling by Somer Flaherty

Tip: Follow the rule of Accessor- Three: no more than three types of accessories at any one time. You’ve probably seen the head bauble look, but that easily can make you resemble a Christmas tree loaded down with ornaments.

The Sartorialist: Closer by Scott Schuman

This book includes some of the world’s chicest people in their natural habitat. This is street fashion at its best. She has captured 65 pictures from all over the world, including London, Paris, and Tokyo.

Tim Gunn’s Fashion Bible by Tim Gunn

Tip: If you want to look longer and leaner without wearing a high heel, one way to achieve the same effect is  to try a lower-heeled shoe that has a platform. You’ll add the same number of inches but more stability. And you don’t have to worry about your heel getting stuck in a sidewalk crack!

Stars in Dior by David Fischer

This book showcases 250 pictures of stylish actors and actresses wear clothes from the iconic label. They feature pictures from old Hollywood all the way through today’s well-known celebrities.

Cupcakes and Cashmere by Emily Schuman

Tip: Go dark and opaque with you tights. They’re the most slimming and sleek. You can usually find out solid they’re going to be by checking the ‘denier’- the higher the number, the thicker and less transparent they are. I like 100!

Happy Reading :) !

Petite Ladies…

It can sometimes be difficult to find clothes that are made for your body type, but here we can teach you some tricks that will accentuate your figure and make you look awesome.

When it comes to Dresses

  • Choose dresses that are form-fitting or close to the body. Being petite, you have to be careful that your dress does not wear you.
  • If you are petite and curvy, always define your waist. This will give you a nice balanced look.
  • If you are small on top, you can go for dresses with ruffles or even halter tops that will accentuate that area.
  • The longer the dress, the more narrow the hem line should be ~Quote by Rachael Wang. She is right, you want to go for a slender look, it will always make you look taller, well that and high heels.
  • High-waisted dresses are a great fit for your frame, they make your legs look longer.
  • Shirt-dresses look great on a petite frame and they are great in professional settings. Not every woman can pull this dress off, so take advantage of that.

When it comes to Pants

  • Your pants should be at least ankle length.
  • Look for pants that sit at your waist or even a bit higher, it gives the illusion of long legs.
  • Don’t wear wide-legged pants, they look like they are wearing you. They give you frame a bell shape and look disproportionate.
  • Matching your pants and your heel color or wearing a pointed-toe shoe both give the illusion of long legs.
  • Stay away from dropped crotch style, Period.
  • Avoid pants that have a cuff, they make your legs look shorter.

When it comes to Skirts

  • Choose grown up shapes and styles when it comes to skirts. You are already small in frame, you want to embrace a mature look.
  • Keep the hems on your skirt short, long hems will make you look shorter.
  • Wrap dresses and tulip skirts are great for adding curves to a petite shape.
  • Handkerchief or angled hems are great for petite sizes also.

When it comes to Coats & Jackets

  • Princess seams are flattering on a petite frame. A Princess Seam is a seam added in to a shirt or a coat, in this case, to give it shape or a tailored look. This seam gives many winter coats a sleek feminine look instead of a bulky look.
  • Tailor your sleeves if needed. They should fall a little past your wrists. If not, you will look like you are being swallowed by your coat.
  • Coat length should be mid-thigh, not floor length. Anything too long will make you look shorter than you already are.
  • Embrace solid colors and bold colors, you will look good while standing out.
